Contributing Qualifications for ITQ - Mapping Notes

e-skills UK is responsible for compiling and maintaining a list of qualifications that can contribute towards the achievement of an ITQ.

Awarding Bodies are responsible for mapping qualifications that they would like to appear on this list against the National Occupational Standards for IT Users.  Mapping should be recorded on standard forms, which can be obtained by downloading the zip file here (1.3Mb).  If you are unable to access the forms please request them directly from itq@e-skills.com.

Any of the VRQ units listed next to an ITQ unit are equally valid, and will be recognised as such by each of the Awarding Bodies taking part in the ITQ pilot.

Some VRQ units entitle candidates to claim exemptions for more than one ITQ unit.  In such cases, the candidate does not have to claim exemptions for all of the possible ITQ units unless he/she chooses to do so.

In some cases, more than one VRQ unit is listed under a particular Awarding Body?s entry.  In such cases, the candidate needs to achieve only one of the VRQ units listed in order to claim the ITQ exemption.  For example, Unit 25 (e-mail, level 1) can be achieved using two separate OCR level 1 units; either is equally acceptable.

It should be remembered that:

  • the skills of any ITQ Unit for which a candidate is claiming an exemption must be demonstrated in the mandatory unit.  The assessment of the mandatory unit of the ITQ must include the application of the skills and knowledge learned and achieved in the VRQ units.
  • the certificates of all VRQ units that are being used to claim exemptions must be no more than 3 years old when the candidate registers for the ITQ.

Please Note:

  • the list of qualifications that are recognised as contributing towards the achievement of the ITQ will be acceptable as part of the IT User (ITQ) Apprenticeship Programme - www.e-skills.com/apprenticeship
  • NB: if achieving the ITQ at level 2 as part of the IT User Apprenticeship, the unit values must equal 130 (100 UVs plus enhancement of 30 additional UVs),
  • please refer to each unit of the qualification for mapping coverage.  Not all units of the qualifications included provide full coverage of the units and additional evidence may be required in the mandatory unit.  If you have any further queries after reading the document and the detail linked to each qualification please contact your Awarding Body.
