AMEC

Implementing ITQ

AMEC ITQ awardsAMEC successfully launches ITQ - the new IT User qualificatio

In 2004 e-skills UK launched a new vocational qualification in IT competency called ITQ. AMEC, a leading international project management and services company, played a significant role in piloting this. The course was relevant to all delegates in their varied job roles as the ITQ is both modular and flexible and was designed to include AMEC-specific learning. The modules for Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel were based on Microsoft Office Specialist examinations. So, not only did the delegates gain a nationally accredited ITQ certificate, but were also awarded Microsoft Office Specialist certificates.

ITQ delegates were selected from across AMEC and hold a range of job roles. Although hard work was required to achieve their goal, the delegates confirm that their knowledge, productivity and confidence in using AMEC IT systems has grown significantly.

Currently, IT has a very high profile at AMEC as the company’s Information Services team pushes ahead with a major improvement initiative called the Fast Forward Investment Programme. IT plays an ever-increasing role in the everyday lives and jobs of many people. Both individuals and organisations will benefit as long as people are able to use the IT tools to maximum effect. Receiving training to a high standard, in a nationally recognised qualification, is the ideal way of gaining these important skills.

Testimonials

AMEC ITQ awards"I always considered myself to be computer literate but was surprised at how much I didn’t know. Thanks to ITQ, I have gained a huge amount of confidence and knowledge about the IT systems I use daily," said Melanie Page - Strategic Support & Research Analyst - one of the 34 AMEC employees who successfully completed their ITQ.

Michelle Jones, a Business Assistant from the Birchwood campus, said, "ITQ has helped me tremendously. There are so many useful features in Outlook that users may not be aware of. Not only did I find the workshops really useful but I enjoyed them too. ITQ has made me more effective and efficient in my role."

Information Services Service Level Manager, Paul Smith-Allen added, "ITQ seems to be an excellent vehicle for raising the IS competency level of AMEC staff throughout the UK and will be of benefit to individuals, the company and, ultimately, our customers."

Tim Wright, IT Director at AMEC Group Limited, summed up the training: "I am delighted for all the AMEC delegates who participated successfully in the ITQ programme. Achieving the qualification was very demanding but I know that the effort will pay real dividends both for the individual and for the company in the future."
